Course description:
This course qualifies as an Advanced level workshop (as defined by the American Physical Therapy Association's guidelines) since it assumes that the participants have a thorough familiarity with the topics of gross human anatomy, connective tissue anatomy, kinesiology, and advanced clinical experience in assisted stretching and flexibility training for therapeutic application. Therefore, it focuses on advanced techniques, recent evidenced based research, and future directions in stand alone and integrative Fascial Stretch Therapy™ and by increasing your understanding and clinical application of this material.
For practitioners licensed to diagnose and/or treat medical conditions, this course will use the combined 35 years of Ann and Chris' experience in accurate and quick assessment followed by implementing a specific course of treatment for the condition at hand.
Course Description
Completely new material based on integrating recent findings from the Fascial Research Congress, Fascia Research Project and Ann & Chris Frederick's new clinical applications and solutions.
- Theme: Identify and treat common orthopedic and sports musculoskeletal diagnoses, structural imbalance and movement impairment syndromes using new applications of FST and complementary manual therapies. Follow up with specific home program design.
- integrating new fascial anatomy research with our treatments
- changes in diagnosis and treatment paradigms resulting from research; examples:
- new discoveries in fascial anatomy, e.g. fascia of agonists are connected to fascia of antagonists (researcher Carla Stecco, MD)
- new ideas about force transmission in fascia, e.g. straight leg raise produces more strain or stretch in the IT Band than hamstrings (Huijing; Vleeming 2008)
- neurological release more effective than mechanical release in dense fascia like IT Band (Chaudry et al 2008; Threlkeld 1992)
- and much more
- changes in diagnosis and treatment paradigms resulting from research; examples:
- diagnosis
- specific fascial lesion identification (location/depth/extent) that correlates with specific diagnoses/syndromes = faster, more effective treatment
- myofascial lesions
- neurofascial lesions
- lesions that inhibit muscle activation
- lesions that facilitate muscle hyper-activation
- specific fascial lesion identification (location/depth/extent) that correlates with specific diagnoses/syndromes = faster, more effective treatment
- new treatments
- new regional solutions using advanced FST protocols
- integrating central & peripheral nervous system mobilization with FST
- optimal manual therapy solutions to integrate with/enhance FST
- how to use an FST belt to mobilize joints & stretch joint capsules, i.e. improve arthrokinematics/osteokinematics for capsular restrictions, reduced ROM, impingement, etc.
- new rehab and home exercise program design solutions
- corrective self FST
- specific FST and manual therapy solutions for specific diagnoses/syndromes/findings
- integrate self myofascial release/self joint mobilization/self FST with guidelines for improving strength, gait and overall function for activities of daily living and sports
- integrating new fascial anatomy research with our treatments
We will also review and fine tune the following L2 moves:
- The Butterfly
- Reverse hip opener
- Side-lying series
We hope that you can join us for this intensive workshop to advance your skills in diagnosis, treatment and home program design.
