Our History

A Winning History:
Stretching to Win with the Fredericks

Since the very beginning Ann and Chris have had a passion for movement, teaching, and making a difference.

1995

Ann pursues degree at Arizona State University.

Hired as Graduate Assistant in Intercollegiate Athletes to do assisted stretching on all the sports teams and Olympians training at ASU.

Hired as associate faculty to teach stretching and flexibility to students in the departments of dance and exercise science.

Ann completes a degree in academic dance with special focus on kinesiology and biomechanics to complete her thesis.

1995 - 1997

Ann starts a private practice called Stretch to Win and offered her brand of assisted stretching to clients that is known today as the Frederick Stretch Therapy™ (FST™).

She spent the next decade often working 12 hours days including most weekends developing her work first on collegiate athletes, and then on professional athletes and finally with the general population.

Ann first teaches FST to her staff of 6 stretching practitioners to handle rapidly expanding demand.

1996

Ann hired to work with the Men’s USA Olympic Wrestling Team thereby becoming the first Flexibility Specialist to work at an Olympics.

1997

Ann produces a research study for her thesis in 1997 titled “Proprioceptive Neuromuscular Facilitation: Effectiveness in increasing range of motion in dancers and other athletes." Statistically significant outcomes were noted when comparing Ann’s brand of assisted stretching to a traditional technique.

1999

Ann and Chris marry on October 16th, 1999.

Stretch to Win Institute first incorporated and started operations in USA to train and certify practitioners in FST.

2000

Ann provided FST for Olympic hopefuls, some future medalists, with Coach Beverly Kearney at University of Texas in Austin.

2000 - 2004

Fredericks provided FST to the women’s track team at the University of Texas at Austin.

2002

Lecture/demonstration of FST at Society of Weight training Injuries Specialist (SWIS) Toronto, Canada, an international gathering of top thought leaders in fitness, sports medicine, nutrition, exercise and manual therapy.

During demonstration of FST at trade show, approached by representative from Human Kinetics with offer to write a book for them.

2004

Fredericks provided FST at Olympic Track and Field trials in Sacramento, CA with future gold medalist Sanya Richards (now Richards-Ross) and others.

NFC Championship and 2005 Super Bowl provided FST for Philadelphia Eagles.

2005 - 2006

NFC Championship and 2005 Super Bowl provided FST for Philadelphia Eagles.

NFC Championship and 2006 Super Bowl provided FST for the Seattle Seahawks football team

2006

“Stretch to Win” book first edition written by the Fredericks and published by Human Kinetics.

Purchase the Book

2007

Attended first Fascia Research Congress at Harvard Medical School.

2008 - 2009

2008 Season and 2009 NFC Championship and Super Bowl provided for the Arizona Cardinals football team.

2011

First taught FST in Europe.

2012

“Fascial Stretch Therapy” book first edition written by the Fredericks and published by Handspring Publishing Ltd.

Became founding members of the Fascia Research Society, which produces the only conference dedicated to scientific research and clinical studies on fascia.

Taught FST workshop at Third Fascia Research Congress, Vancouver, BC, Canada.

Stretch to Win Canada incorporated to train and certify practitioners in FST.

2014

Presenters at National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA).

2016

Chris Frederick contributing author in the book, “Foundations of Professional Personal Training”, Second Edition.

2017

Stretch to Win Institute designs and builds own 11,000 sq. ft. facility for optimal teaching and learning with cutting edge technology.

“Stretch to Win” 2nd edition written by the Fredericks and published by Human Kinetics.

“Effects of Fascial Stretch Therapy (FST) on Pain Index and Activities of Daily Living (ADL) in Patients with Chronic Non-specific Low Back Pain (LBP)” – research conducted at the University of Arizona medical school in Phoenix. Authors of this study were  Oluwatosin Ayotunde, Paul R. Standley, Ann Frederick, Chris Frederick and Paul Kang.

2018

Fredericks invited to attend client Brian Dawkins induction into the NFL Hall of Fame.

2019

Ann and Chris celebrate 20 years of personal bliss and professional vision attained at their wedding and Institute anniversary with students, clients, families and friends.

2020

Hired by National Academy of Sports Medicine as subject matter experts in stretching and flexibility. Developed stretching and flexibility coach online program.

• “Fascia, Function, and Medical Applications”

• “Everything Moves: How Biotensegrity informs human movement”
