WINTER NEWSLETTER — ISSUE 7

Stretch to Win Institute

Greetings!

Fall season for us is a time to reflect on, enjoy, and express gratitude for all that we have “harvested” from this past year.

First, we thank you – our many students from around the globe – for having faith and trusting us with your personal and professional hunger and passion for becoming the best you can be in body, mind, and spirit. Since we do not market heavily, we sincerely appreciate all the referrals of fine people that you have sent our way who now are part of the FST Family.

Next, we warmly thank our teachers and support staff (with a shout out to Kevin Darby and the STW Canada Team) for helping us create a safe, extraordinary experience for all. This is the one thing that greatly facilitates the healing journey of students that then catalyzes radical personal and professional growth and success. We are increasingly seeing this occur in our workshops as healing past traumas become part of the process for many students to make massive shifts in their lives. We will never tire of seeing so many miracles occur in our humble presence!

Lastly, we start our newsletter below with a special student highlight. Retired NFL athlete and former FST client of ours, Bertrand (“B-train”) Berry, is now not only a certified Level 1 FST Practitioner but also one of our new teachers-in-training! We know that you will enjoy his inspiring story and ask that you share it with this newsletter to anyone you think would love our training, mission and vision to help heal the world one stretch at a time.

Yours in love, light, and laughter,

Ann and Chris Frederick

Directors of Stretch to Win Institute®

Student Highlight: Bertrand Berry, Level 1 Practitioner

Bert was a client of Ann Frederick when he played defensive end with the Arizona Cardinals. After being selected for the 2005 Pro Bowl, he suffered 3 season ending injuries. With much encouragement from his teammates, skeptical Bert reluctantly went to see “The Stretch Lady” that he heard so much about. After playing successfully at the 2009 Super Bowl where Ann and Chris provided FST for the team, Bert said “FST saved and extended my career”. He now pays it forward with coaching and providing FST for high school, collegiate and pro football athletes. Enjoy his story in this brief video above!

If after listening to Bert’s inspiring story you feel called to train with us, then go to this link for more information and to register for our Level 1 certification workshop (only 8 spots left in January 2024).

Fascianetics®: Evolution of a Revolution

"A dramatic and wide-reaching change in the way something works or is organized or in people’s ideas about it” is one definition of a revolution (1). This fits our vision of FST slowly evolving into Fascianetics as a more complete approach to healthcare in general and bodywork in particular. As we wrote in our blog recently, our current medical system is broken, and we are doing something about it by expanding your skills with more comprehensive training (2).

For example, we hosted a workshop called DFR (Dermal Fascial Restoration) on Nov. 4-5 with creator Paul Mettler, DPT and his teaching staff which included our very own Chris Frederick. Chris was so impressed by how DFR helped improve mobility of his decades old deep scars combined with fascial densification (thickening and immobility), that he decided to first learn it and apply it to clients. Getting overall impressive results by assessing and treating skin and superficial fascial restrictions that also improved muscle and nerve function, Chris knew that this was a crucial addition to Fascianetics. In future advanced FST courses, Chris will introduce the basics of DFR so that you can start using in your practice for even better results!

While stabilization has always accompanied mobilization in FST (e.g. sacral, shoulder, cranial and crown sets), over the last several years we have had increasingly more students attend with hypermobility. Realizing that they needed more (and much more in several cases), we have been developing more techniques that compress joints and capsules, while also allowing mild stretching where needed. Beyond simple stability, this has resulted in much improved proprioception and interoception. Surprisingly, many never realized they were hypermobile until we identified it in our classes. More students and the clients they treated were coming in with EDS (Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome, a more extreme version of Hypermobility Spectrum Disorder) and we were compelled to come up with better assessments and treatments to meet that essential need (3, 4).

Consequently, even as we have been peppering some of these new techniques in our classes, we are collaborating with a FST Level 3 Sports Specialist who has EDS. She is helping us develop a new 2-day workshop focusing on how to optimize care for clients with hypermobility both with hands-on manual techniques that integrate with FST as well as therapeutic exercise for self-care. We hope to offer that by Fall 2024 as a new, exciting addition to the spectrum of Fascianetics whole person healing paradigm.

Meantime, leaving no stone unturned in getting you the best training in anything fascia, we are hosting a NEW Fascianetics workshop called Kinesiotaping for FST in January 2024. Check below for details!

Online 6-Hour Webinar with Diane Lee, PT

If you missed this popular 3-webinar series last August with renowned physiotherapist, author and specialist in lumbopelvic conditions Diane Lee, it is now available at the special price of $99 ($149 for non FST practitioners).

The theme for this series of 3 webinars is common Postpartum conditions and how to assess and treat them with Diane’s unique Integrated Systems Model (ISM). Yet, it is also highly recommended advanced education for anyone treating low back, pelvis and hip pain, dysfunction, and other conditions. This is because the ISM method is superior at complete, whole-body assessment for optimal outcomes and best results.

In fact, Chris Frederick is going to British Columbia, Canada next January to start his 6-month training with Diane Lee, to be able to integrate ISM with Fascianetics to expand your expertise as a FST Practitioner. Meantime, you can get started now with this in-depth series for a head start!
