Stretching Reduces Arterial Stiffness

article Aug 30, 2024

First meta-analysis of research to assess the potential benefits of stretching exercise on arterial stiffness.

Conclusions: Stretching exercises reduce arterial stiffness, heart rate, and diastolic blood pressure, and improves vascular endothelial function in middle-aged and older adults.

It is thought that this improvement was potentially induced by increased NO (nitric oxide) production from vascular endothelial cells.

Cyclic stretch stimuli used in other studies have previously been shown to upregulate the expression of endothelial nitric oxide.

This is the sort of credibility that helps elevate Fascial Stretch Therapy™ as a modality of Functional Medicine that can optimize health & wellness. Imagine the potential for FST to help recovery in Covid long haulers!
